Limassol Food

Limassol Food

For the tourists, the kebab can be best for a relatively cheap and filling meal. However, be careful of colourful "tourist" cafes because they are over-priced and offer low quality conventional sandwiches or English Breakfasts that are very unhealthy.

Mousaka or Kleftiko are popular foods, however the traditional Cyprus Meze (either of the meat or fish variety) is something you must try in Limassol, which usually includes a myriad of small hot and cold dishes for a reasonable price. If you are in need of a restaurant, try to find restaurants that cater for the locals as these would be popular and renowned for their dishes. You should not encounter a language barrier as virtually everyone speaks English and will take your meal gladly.

McDonalds, Burger King and Pizza Hut have dominated this region as well, and will not be hard to find something you can recognise.

Some popular items to be found as meat meze dishes are:
- Afelia - pork marinated in coriander and wine
- Koupepia - minced meat and rice stuffed in grape leaves
- Loukanika - sausages seasoned with coriander
- Lountza - smoked pork
- Ofto Kleftiko - lamb chunks cooked in a clay oven and seasoned with bay leaves
- Sheftalia - grilled pork sausage
- Stiphado - rabbit or beef casserole with wine vinegar

And if you like seafood, try out:
- Calamari
- Octopus in red wine
- Barbouni (red mullet)
- Sea bass
